Becoming a parent is one of the most exciting things in life. Unfortunately, sometimes pregnancy complications occur, remaining a serious challenge, that is not often talked about. Ahead are interviews with leading researchers in Dublin aimed to understand the impact of data and analytics on maternal health. According to the
This is the third post in a series about the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit in London. Welcome to the third and final collection of thoughts inspired by my time covering the SAS booth at the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit in London. In my previous blog, I talked about
Research, supply chain, manufacturing, and sales increasingly depend on partnerships in a digital ecosystem. Cloud-based analytics makes it possible to collaborate intelligently at scale. For years, life sciences companies have been justifiably cautious about moving their data science functions into the cloud. Although the industry’s central purpose is to accelerate
SAS research statistician Ji Shen reveals how to train a machine to be a batting coach.
You’ve probably heard of DevOps, but do you know about DataOps? It builds on the DevOps approach to provide huge benefits in unlocking business value from data. Many people have heard of DevOps, even if they don’t know precisely what it means. It is an agile approach to software development,
In today's environment, data is exceedingly important but also increasingly harder to get and manage. A reliable customer data platform (CDP) can provide significant value to retail and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies. Customer data platforms are used to consolidate and integrate customer and consumer data into a single data source. CDP
Welcome to the seventh installment in my series Getting Started with Python Integration to SAS Viya. In previous posts, I discussed how to connect to the CAS server, how to execute CAS actions, and how to work with the results. Now it's time to learn how to filter CAS tables. Load and explore data
A previous article shows how to compute the probability density function (PDF) for the multivariate normal distribution. In a similar way, you can compute the density function for the multivariate t distribution. This article discusses the density function for the multivariate t distribution, shows how to compute it, and visualizes
Changes and conflict happening in our world impact each of us in unique ways, causing strife and uncertainty. This can leave us feeling unsure of what to say, who to say it to, and how to find support. I don’t keep it a secret that I am the parent of an
There’s plenty of buzz about innovation and thinking outside of the box at SAS these days. But for those who attended SAS' Patent Dinner, the proof was in the patent. SAS Legal Counsel Director Tim Wilson offered opening remarks at The Umstead event. “So much of what we do in
"Companies across pharma and medtech need talented people to cover the range of data-related challenges." Paolo Morelli, Executive VP, Biometrics of Alira Health Paolo Morelli, Executive Vice President, Biometrics of Alira Health, tells us how he developed a relationship between the University of Bologna and industry-leading companies – and what
Recently, I needed to solve an optimization problem in which the objective function included a term that involved the quantile function (inverse CDF) of the t distribution, which is shown to the right for DF=5 degrees of freedom. I casually remarked to my colleague that the optimizer would have to
The COVID-19 pandemic brought an enormous urgency to the life sciences sector. Companies vied for suitable treatments and in less than a year, COVID-19 vaccines were developed. This demonstrated clearly that the sector could move at speed when necessary. Though vaccines were supported by regulators, inefficiencies in vaccine and drug development were exposed.
See how these 12 carbon terms are starting to define our future.
Jarred roasted red peppers and their sweet and sunny disposition always catch my eye at the grocery store. They have a bright, cheerful taste with a hint of smokiness that adds depth to pretty much any dish, but I often keep walking because I don’t know what to do with
Rainforests are a vital part of the climate and life on our planet. Rainforests are known as ‘the lungs of the Earth’ because they produce 20% of the world’s oxygen. Because of this, conservation efforts are more important than ever. By combining the power of AI and analytics technologies with
For a linear regression model, a useful but underutilized diagnostic tool is the partial regression leverage plot. Also called the partial regression plot, this plot visualizes the parameter estimates table for the regression. For each effect in the model, you can visualize the following statistics: The estimate for each regression
Leonid Batkhan shows you how to automate and improve a sometimes onerous hands-on process of creating Excel workbooks.
Have you ever heard the phrase “beggars can’t be choosers”? Basically, it means that if you ask for something, be grateful for what you get, especially if you don’t have the means to acquire it yourself. This phrase can be widely applicable to most areas of our lives, but when
The ODS GRAPHICS statement in SAS supports more than 30 options that enable you to configure the attributes of graphs that you create in SAS. Did you know that you can display the current set of graphical options? Furthermore, did you know that you can temporarily set certain options and
When The Arab Academy for Management, Banking & Financial Sciences (AAMBFS) began looking for a business partner to help prepare a new generation of students for the increasing role analytics plays in the finance and business sectors, they took a very non-academic approach. Unlike traditional university programs focused on a
The summer months are approaching rapidly and that might mean it's time to reassess and cement plans for warmer days, travel, and barbecues. This might include optimizing lifestyle habits and even hormonal health. Yes, that's right...hormonal health. It's often openly discussed in women's health but over the last several years,
The SAS Batting Lab is a six-week program designed to help improve kids’ understanding of data while also helping them improve their baseball and softball swings. Using analytics in an interactive, AI-powered batting cage, kids can compare their swings to batting stars. During the program, the participants also became more
About a year ago, my adult child told their grandfather that they had chosen a new name and were using the pronouns “they/them.” This was the day before a family beach trip. My child told him that they would correct him if he got it wrong, not to be judgmental,
A palindrome is a sequence of letters that is the same when read forward and backward. In brief, if you reverse the sequence of letters, the word is unchanged. For example, 'mom' and 'racecar' are palindromes. You can extend the definition to phrases by removing all spaces and punctuation marks
SAS' Michael Lamm gives an overview of Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART) and demonstrates training and scoring BART models in SAS Visual Statistics.
There are several alternatives to writing to a Microsoft Word file when you use the SAS® Output Delivery System (ODS). The RTF, TAGSETS.RTF and TAGSETS.RTF_SAMPLE destinations create an RTF formatted file. The WORD destination, which is still considered preproduction, creates a DOCX formatted file. The destinations provide many of the same functions, although some features are unique to each one. The destination that you choose might vary depending on your desired final output.
COVID-related lockdowns around the world resulted in changes to the way that we work, study and live. Some of these changes were positive: better access to remote learning and working for those who want it, for example. However, there were other less positive developments, including a huge rise in cybercrime.
