Melissa Torgbi
Being involved in a project that allowed me to use my skills to help protect vulnerable children has been immensely rewarding and meaningful.
Melissa is a data scientist committed to helping customers solve business problems using analytics. She graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Electronic Engineering. She joined SAS as part of a postgraduate apprenticeship program where she worked and studied to receive her Master of Science as a Technology and Digital Solutions Specialist. Her understanding of technical applications within a business context – accompanied by her increasingly in-depth understanding of NLP and text analytics – allows her to work across multiple sectors.
Melissa helped translate the technology to support investigations that will make a tangible difference in protecting children. By setting this foundation, she elevated our ability to innovate and expand the technology’s capabilities beyond what was imagined. Melissa was recently nominated by her colleagues for ‘Rising Star’ in the Women in Technology Awards 2023 due to her skill, hard work and enthusiasm for making positive breakthroughs in innovation. Her passion for problem-solving and her desire to positively impact society has led her to volunteer with organizations like DataKind UK and Women in Data Science.
