Julia Moreno
Working on this project has been character-building and I feel honoured to support such a great cause.
Julia is a data scientist who moved from the US to Glasgow, Scotland, in 2015 to pursue an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University of Glasgow. After defending her thesis, she pivoted from academia into a career in data science. She used statistical and machine learning (ML) skills from her doctoral research to analyze market trends and develop time-saving applications for the energy industry. During this project, Julia developed customized technology to detect grooming. This gives investigators an understanding of probability, risk and other details to help protect children from predators.
Returning to her passion for language, she joined SAS in 2022 as a data scientist in text analytics and artificial intelligence (AI). She combined language and data science to facilitate information extraction for unstructured data and to support linguistic data-driven decision-making. Julia injected a coordinated approach that has developed an ecosystem to optimize the translation of problems into real technological innovation.
