Is high performance analytics exactly what government agencies need to help with big data?

SAS Solutions Architect David Pope recently held the audience’s attention at the SAS Government Executive Leadership Summit, where he helped demystify high-performance analytics for the government crowd in attendance.   His presentation entitled, “The Next Big Thing: High-Performance Analytics” reviewed how the analytics lifecycle can be greatly accelerated with recent technological advances.

During the summit, I was fortunate to be seated next to two self-described data geeks who support one of our government agencies.  They likened themselves to sculptors who take a slab of data and lovingly turn it into a work of art.  But, shaping the data can take a long time.  And big data keeps getting bigger.  As they listened to David talk about the benefits of high performance analytics, I could see their attention drawn to SAS Visual Analytics because it could help ease their data burdens.

SAS Visual Analytics makes it possible for data scientists and other data handlers to explore ALL of their data and the relationships between data elements really fast.  Billions of rows can be manipulated in seconds and advanced analytics like regression analysis can be performed as well.  For the highly skilled guests at my table, SAS Visual Analytics could really increase their productivity.  But they are not the only group that could benefit.  Business analysts, who are dependent on data scientists through much of the early stages in the analytics lifecycle, can do their own data exploration because Visual Analytics is EASY TO USE and the results, as the name implies, are displayed visually as histograms or the most appropriate format.

But in the end, High Performance Analytics for government is about removing obstacles and helping dedicated government employees get to the nuggets of usable information or actionable intelligence that helps them achieve their missions and serve their constituents better.
