What is your greatest strength? And how has it helped you in your career? Understanding your strengths in the workplace helps your team thrive and can lead to a more fulfilling career and more meaningful contributions.

This is the second post in a new series highlighting women from diverse backgrounds as they share their experiences in the tech industry. We asked four women leaders at SAS to describe their greatest strengths in their work.

                                   .

Niyati Sheth, Principal Software Developer

Niyati Sheth has worked more than 16 years in Research and Development (R&D) as a programmer. She has worked on multiple SAS® solutions, and designed models and data marts. When she is not working, Sheth enjoys activities such as singing, sketching, dancing, aerobics, yoga and trekking. “I have a deep appreciation for nature and take pleasure in discovering new places,” says Sheth. “Additionally, cooking Indian meals is a skill I have mastered, and it serves as a source of relaxation for me.”

What is your greatest strength?

Sheth: Focus and dedication are the driving forces behind my achievements.

I can become fully immersed in a task to complete my goals. Whether it's a challenging project or a personal endeavor, I pour my energy and attention into every detail. This focused mindset allows me to navigate problems with precision and achieve results that surpass expectations.

Dedication complements my ability to focus by keeping me committed. I approach each project as an opportunity for growth and remain resilient, even during setbacks. This perseverance ensures that I stay on track, maintaining a long-term perspective and steadily progressing toward my desired outcomes. With these two strengths as my guiding principles, I can maximize my productivity and achieve remarkable results.

Jyoti Singh, PhD, Senior Technical Consultant

Jyoti Singh is a consultant and health care professional with more than 16 years of experience. She is extensively engaged in project deliverables with both technical and domain perspectives, and provides solutions to health care payers and providers to help detect fraud, waste and abuse. Outside of work, Singh is simple, fun-loving, straightforward and a problem solver. She loves adventurous trips, being close to nature and spending quality time with her family.

What is your greatest strength?

Singh: One of my favorite quotes is by Bob Feller, “Every day is an opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failure behind and start over again.” It is important to shake off the failures and move forward during challenges. My greatest strength is the strong relationship I have with my family. Their support and guidance allow me to push through many problems whether it be a tough project at work or a personal hardship.

Michelle Proctor, Director of Business Operations

Michelle Proctor is the Director of Business Operations for the Risk, Fraud and Compliance Solutions division. She is responsible for the daily operations of a team of 350 across R&D, risk and finance advisory services, portfolio strategy and operations. In her free time, Proctor enjoys running, spending time with her family and volunteering for educational outreach through several nonprofits.

What is your greatest strength?

Proctor: I grew up in a large family, so I have always thrived in chaos. This has made it easy for me to adapt to change and calm those around me. From NASA and IBM to SAS, my career has been about opportunity meeting preparedness. Adapting my strengths to new areas has allowed every position I’ve had to be the best job ever and expand my skills. A close second is that I’m also an eternal optimist! My glass is not only half full, but always overflowing. True joy is contagious!

I firmly believe that a positive mindset is contagious and has the power to ripple outward. This affects individuals and organizations as well as entire communities. Whether it's through words of encouragement, lending a helping hand or simply being a listening ear, I am dedicated to fostering a culture of positivity, resilience and growth.

Soo Singh, Senior Analytical Consultant

Soo Singh is a Senior Analytical Consultant with more than 20 years of experience in data discovery and data science practices. She focuses on managing project delivery, strengthening analytics through mentoring and finding ways to incorporate strategic analytics. Singh has extensive experience across many sectors and has built and led the development of data science solutions to improve business outcomes in multiple areas. In her spare time, she enjoys painting with watercolors and is an avid investor in Lego sets.

What is your greatest strength?

Singh: I consider my curiosity and creativity to be my greatest strengths. I apply these strengths to continue to learn, expanding my knowledge base. Some things I have learned recently include technically oriented concepts such as advanced analytics, new techniques of visual representation, and personal interests, such as trying to reproduce a new dish I tried at a restaurant.
