Just over a year ago, SAS and Microsoft announced their strategic partnership. Since then we have been working together to provide the best experience and value to our customers as they migrate to the cloud.

Here are six milestones you should know about; each highlights the early success of the two industry giants.

The start of something big

In February of 2021, SAS Viya – SAS’s cloud-native end-to-end analytics platform – launched on Microsoft Azure. This latest release of SAS is built to run seamlessly on SAS Cloud and Azure, making it easier to design, run, and manage analytics and data processing workloads in the cloud.

A shared vision for a data-led future

Satya Nadella CEO of Microsoft and Jim Goodnight CEO of SAS discussed the partnership in a webcast for SAS Global Forum 2021. The two discussed the potential for the SAS and Microsoft Partnership to shape the future of AI and analytics in the cloud.

"I'm looking forward to getting this technology in the customers hands as they rapidly transform their industries through data." - Satya Nadella CEO of Microsoft

Protecting lives with award-winning innovation

SAS and Microsoft were included on Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s most innovative companies. Through a joint venture with the town of Cary, North Carolina, the partners created a flood incident prediction and preparedness solution. Using SAS® IoT analytics and Microsoft Azure, Cary uses flood sensors and weather pattern analysis to proactively warn and inform citizens of flood incidents.

Agtech reaps the benefits of using SAS and Microsoft

In October of 2020, the two companies announced they would work together to support critical agricultural research from the North Carolina Plant Sciences Initiative (NC PSI) at North Carolina State University. With a goal to double food production by 2050, NC PSI is looking to innovate through a data-driven science initiative. In short, IoT technology from Microsoft FarmBeats will stream real-time agricultural data to Microsoft Azure, while SAS® Analytics will be used to analyze the data, providing insights on sustainability and plant diseases to researchers from NC PSI.
