Eight things you can do with the SAS News iPad app

10

It seems that we like to describe things in eights - from business analytics to customer intelligence and chess moves. So why not continue the tradition with eight things you can do with our recently released SAS News iPad app? Whether you’re a SAS customer, an analyst or journalist covering SAS, or a SAS employee, this new iPad app helps keep important information from 10 major industries and various topic areas at your fingertips. The app also provides on-the-go access to corporate news.

Ready for the special list of eight? Here are a few things you can do with it:

  1. Follow blogs and Twitter feeds of SAS thought leaders and their analysis of market news and trends.
  2. Easily share posts with colleagues.
  3. Explore how analytics are used in remarkable ways by the brand-name companies you encounter every day.
  4. Access solution information for nine major market segments.
  5. Download white papers and webcasts.
  6. Get links to resources such as e-newsletters and SAS Knowledge Exchanges, our thought-leadership microsites.
  7. Interact with SAS Facebook pages, for the “inside scoop” on the world’s largest privately held vendor in the business intelligence market.
  8. Keep customer support contact info handy.

Download the app today from the iTunes App Store by searching “SAS News.” After you've taken a look, let me know what you think. I'll be attending sessions Tuesday and Wednesday in Singapore at the Premier Business Leadership Series and would love to meet with you and hear what you think of the app and the conference. I'd also love to read your comments here.

  1. I had a look at the app, it is a nice way to get SAS-related stuff in one place, although doesn't offer much extra if you already subscribe to the RSS feeds. One frustration is that you need to go through lots of steps of signing in (which is hard when you've forgotten your password because you're on your ipad) to download white papers. I used to have the same frustration on the website, and I've heard from clients that they saw a paper they were interested in but having to register was such a barrier that they didn't bother.

I think that version 2 of the app should allow you to "log in" to your SAS profile and then automatically populate the SAS profile fields when you request a white paper. That way as a user you have full access and SAS still knows who is interested in what.

That is exactly the kind of feedback we need for a spec sheet for version 2. Thanks for taking a look. Let me know if you have other ideas.

The good news is that we have a corporate initiative under way to improve our profile system. Your feedback echoes Bruce's above and others, so I'm sure that will be a consideration in future versions of this app and others. Thanks!

The alarm is ringing Dwayne. This app doesn't do analysis, but if you consult with your account rep you'll find that we have other apps for iPhone that do mobile BI. Thanks for taking a look.

    • Hi, Dwayne,
You can mobilize your SAS Enteprise BI reports now with the add-on, Roambi ES for SAS, and native SAS mobile capability is coming shortly. We'll be demo-ing several of our native mobile analytics applications to customers attending our upcoming SAS regional user group conferences.

  2. One option is to score SAS models from an iPad app from Predixion Software. At risk of self promoting it's a nice way to import SAS models into the Predixion public or private cloud then score them within our Excel or web and iPad clients.

      Hi Kris,
Sorry you're having trouble finding it. I just checked and it is there. If you search "SAS News" in the search box of the App Store it shows up. There might have been a temporary technical glitch. Thanks--and have a great day!
