ABLE and the RFC Continue the Conversation

In 2021, the RFC and ABLE EIG recruited volunteers for focus groups and interviews to find out more about fitness, wellness, and recreation experiences of people with disabilities at SAS.  To read more about that process, check out this SAS Life blog.   As we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) at SAS, the RFC continues to provide and opportunities for every-body.  We’ve established an intra-departmental committee with employees from the RFC, ABLE, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that meets regularly to establish goals and discuss growth and change.

We are happy to share progress updates!

Accessible entry for all RFC buildings

Thanks to SAS Facilities, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Pam Cole, and countless others, we were able to secure accessible entrances for buildings G, GA, GX, and GN.

New equipment in our gym

This platform, also known as a Stretch Platform or Stretch Table, raises the floor so participants can more easily engage in stretching that may be less comfortable on the ground. Thanks to Jim Utley and his team with Art & Scenic Operations for helping us with equipment!

Accessible shower enhancements in Natatorium

We replaced accessible shower doors with shower curtains to improve accessibility Natatorium locker rooms. Thanks to Benny Saint Romain and SAS Facilities for making this happen so quickly and seamlessly!

There is more to come…  As we continue to offer diverse recreation, wellness, and fitness opportunities, we are dedicated to enhance accessibility and inclusivity in RFC facilities and programming.  Stay tuned and we look forward to seeing you at the RFC!
