Celebrating wellness at work and at home: Global Employee Health & Fitness Month

0

If there’s one thing that we’ve learned from working from home, it’s the value of wellness.  Not leaving our homes for work has collectively meant less steps (aka daily activity), easy access to the family fridge, and blurred lines between work and home life…and even the days for that matter.  Recently, the Recreation and Fitness Center re-opened and I’m back “in the office” for most of my work hours.  It’s going to take a bit to re-acclimate to the 4:30am wake ups; my shift starts at 5:30.  At the same time, it feels like a breath of fresh air to be in the space that my mind and body know so well as “work” and when I come home I can be “mom” and “wife” again…..Well, there’s still 1st and 4th grade virtual school facilitator duties, but I’ll take this as progress!

As we continue to transition over the next couple months, be sure to set yourself up for success by making your health and wellness a priority during your workday. Well rested, fed, and healthy bodies tackle difficult tasks with curiosity, fascination, and I’d even go so far as to say with an adventurous spirit.  When we’re stressed, mentally or physically, this stress cascades and makes everything harder – whether its your daily workout, a work project, or parenting.

During the month of May, we observe both Global Employee Health & Fitness Month (GEHFM) as well as Mental Health Awareness Month at SAS. Working for a company that not only values but supports employee health and wellness is quite the honor and something to celebrate.  From the moment you walk onto our gorgeous campus, it’s hard not to be inspired to take time for your health with all the green space, beautiful landscaping, and art.  Tree lined campus trails invite employees out to take walking meetings or trips to the gym or café with healthy options for everyone from meditation to nutritious meals.  Our Ergonomics team helps employees both on and off campus set up their workspaces so they are pain free.  Our Child Care team provides on campus and virtual options for parents to feel good about working while raising a family.  For those times when you need a consult, checkup, or advice, professional staff are ready to help at the Health Care, Work Life, or Recreation & Fitness Centers.  Yes, SAS is a place that values employee wellness which is why we celebrate GEHFM each May.

Global Employee Health & Fitness Month Celebration

The celebration continues this year with our Annual GEHFM 5K and 2021 21 Mile Challenge.  It’s virtual again and that means we get to have a global event. We will continue the virtual option in years to come too - even when we’re back on campus sweating out those 3.1 miles on quite possibly the hilliest course in the area, and normally, the warmest day of the year.  Join in on the fun May 15-23 and complete a 5K and/or 21 miles in the name of your health.  Better yet, invite your family and work team to join you!   SAS employees may register here.

When we are well, we are more creative, innovative, and energetic.

We are more likely to feel motivated, empowered, and inspired.

We love more, manage stress, and fight illness.

When we are well, we have more TIME to do the things we love with the people we love!

Happy Global Employee Health and Fitness Month!

May you be happy and well and may your wellness be present in your body, mind and spirit both at work and at home.  Namaste.
