We’re proud of our unique company culture that spans across offices, divisions and geographies. It’s one of the reasons why SAS is named among the top workplaces in the world by Fortune’s Great Place to Work!
If you’re curious about what it’s like to work at SAS, you’re in the right place. Our people are some of the best and brightest, and their curiosity and innovative spirit is at the core of our company.
Today, Katja McLaughlin is sharing about her work as a technical writer at our SAS Scotland R&D Centre and why she loves living the #saslife.
Meet Katja
I’ve been working at the SAS Scotland R&D Centre as a Technical Writer for 8 years now, and it’s a great fit for me! SAS appealed to me because of the large technical writing community within the company, as well as the potential for development.
A day in the life
I am based in the Glasgow office, but I have been working from home recently due to the coronavirus pandemic, like everyone else in our office. As a technical writer, I create user documentation and other technical literature for SAS products. Specifically, I create online help topics for SAS Event Stream Processing. With this technology, our customers use streaming analytics to uncover insights and make real-time decisions in the cloud.
Day-to-day, I collaborate with developers, testers, and product managers. We all come to the table with unique experiences and perspectives which helps us create strong content that appeals to our diverse user group!
At SAS, you’re encouraged to be curious. In my role, I have become involved with reviewing user interface text, like field labels and messages. I enjoy using my curiosity and writing skills to make our software more accessible and functional for our global audiences.
What do you love about SAS?
The best part about working at SAS is the people. The atmosphere in our office is so welcoming and everyone on our team is friendly. Even while working from home, our team’s spirits are high and we’re working well as a remote team.
I’ve also enjoyed taking part in local SAS Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) events. One of our recent events was a storytelling workshop, where I learned how to prepare more engaging presentations. With events like these and other great benefits, it’s no surprise that SAS is among the top 10 on the UK’s Best Workplaces for Women 2020 list for large workplaces.
Outside the office, where can people usually find you?
When I’m not at the office, you’ll find me with my husband and our three kids. I love spending time with my family, whether it’s doing special things like day trips or everyday life at home.
