In our first quarter 2007 cover story "The Future of Business Intelligence" SAS CEO Jim Goodnight and others speculated about the BI vendor consolidation rumors that had been circulating for months.
At the time, Dr. Goodnight said:
SAS will still be standing as a strong independent vendor after the consolidation. The other vendors will still lack all the incredible analytical and information management capabilities that we have – all the modeling capabilities that add ongoing ROI. Analytics provide that differentiation that companies need.
After the news today that Oracle will be spending $3.3 billion to acquire Hyperion, SAS execs had the same unworried attitude about consolidation. Quoted in Elizabeth Book's Integration Watch, SAS Marketing Director Russ Cobb said:
Both from the Oracle press release and our own assessment, this is the Oracle/SAP battle. This is good news for us. We looked at Hyperion as a competitor in the PM space and to a smaller extent in the BI space. So we will see a lot of openings in current sell cycles.
Who else is mentioning SAS in their analysis of this news? Shawn Rogers, The VAR Guy and Peter O'Kelly.
