Finally, another cautionary tale – and one that relates to the wider use of AI. In general, AI-based algorithms are very good at what they have been trained to do. This algorithm has been trained to reconstruct human faces from pixelated images – and that is what it will try to do even when the original image was not human at all.

When AI gets it right, it is spectacularly good. The challenge for us is likely to be working out when it is wrong.
