Moving OLAP cubes (Part 2 - management has all the options)

0

As mentioned in my previous post, there is the need to move OLAP cubes around. Switching to one schema to another via SAS OLAP Cube Studio is straightforward enough, but what if you need to move it from one Business Intelligence Environment to another (a Development BI Server to a Production BI Server). SAS Management Console provides this ability by exporting and importing SAS package (.pkg) files.

An additional option that comes in handy when moving especially large (or time consuming to build) OLAP cubes is to choose not to rebuild the content after migration. During the import process, select the cube name to get the options checkbox: 'The physical cube will need to be built after the import process'. This can be unchecked so that the cube rebuild isn't required.

Important Note - if the physical structure of the cube is also moving, the last step in the import SAS package system is to specify the new location. However, you must FIRST copy over the physical files before running the import package steps.
