Portal group administration in 9.2

3

Included are some notes on Portal Administration in SAS 9.2.
1. Create a User Group in SMC, include members and a content administrator to this group.
2. Restart the Web Service or Log into Portal as sasadm@saspw (per documentation: http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/biwaag/63059/HTML/default/ag_permissiontrees.htm)
3. Configure a group content administrator by opening the 'Group X' Permission Tree in SAS Management Console and adding an individual user to the tree with WM/RM authorizations.
(per documentation: http://support.sas.com/documentation/cdl/en/biwaag/63059/HTML/default/ag_grant_groupadmin.htm)
4. Now log into portal as a group content administrator to create & share portal pages and content. You'll note that instead of the user's display name, the term 'Content Administrator' will appear at the top of the website.

If you would like to have a portal page that has different content viewable by different groups, you must create the individual portlets as the group content administrator, then as the Public (or larger group) Portal Administrator add a page and include the portlets previously created by the smaller group content administrator.

  1. Hi Jon,
I currently don't have any other posts concerning pushing content to multiple groups. But since the Portal limits the amt of groups that an object can be shared with to 1, your best bet might be a new SAS Management Console group that's a group of the groups.

To keep all this organized, you might consider creating content groups for each type of content being shared.

  2. Thanks Angela - this is very helpful. DO you happen to have any posts concerning pushing portal content to users that are members of multiple user groups or who are unrestricted?

  3. It's funny that you just posted this because I just had to learn these steps. These techniques and the use of the tree structure is very much different from 9.1.3. Thanks for the tip!
