An even better book: JMP Start Statistics

My first thoughts on hearing that we’d be bringing out a new edition of JMP Start Statistics were, “But how do we improve on an already great book? What could be better?”

SAS Press editor Stephenie Joyner with new edition of JMP Start Statistics

JMP Start Statistics has been such a big success with JMP users for a long time, so the authors obviously have the right approach, offering the perfect mix of software manual and statistics text.

From the beginning, John Sall wanted to make statistics (even complex statistics) more understandable to everyone who needs to use them. He wanted to write the book in a friendly tone, and explain things in words the everyday JMP user could understand.

He and his co-authors succeeded and that's why this book has been so appealing for so long. What could make it better?

For starters, the fifth edition includes many features of JMP 10. The new product features new platforms for design, analysis, and graphics, in addition to more report options unavailable in previous versions. The authors have also rewritten the chapter on Design of Experiments (DOE) to reflect the popularity and utility of optimal designs, and they’ve added other new sections and chapters that show cutting edge methods in DOE.

In short, the new edition is completely updated to include the new features of JMP 10 and it reflects the authors’ attention to feedback received since the fourth edition. They listened, they enhanced, and they produced a book even more helpful in teaching users how to use the intuitive interface for data analysis in JMP.

“What could be better?” indeed.
