Million dollar buffets, gravity-defying stunts and big data – it’s all at Analytics 2012

Did you know that 17 of the 20 biggest hotels in the U.S. are in Las Vegas? Everything in Sin City seems larger than life -- so it makes sense that we would host one of the largest analytics conferences right in the middle of the action.

We know the focus of Analytics 2012 is networking and knowledge sharing, but if you happen to get some free time there’s plenty to keep you busy.

This year’s conference is at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas which is now home to the largest buffet on the strip.  The revamped $17 million buffet has more than 500 menu items – everything from crab legs to red velvet pancakes. I’m getting full just thinking about it.

For first timers, Visit Las Vegas suggests simply people watching and cruising the strip.

We asked some Vegas pros (our conference speakers and sponsors) to share some tips for enjoying Las Vegas. Here are their suggestions:

  • Check out KA by Cirque de Soleil or any of the Cirque de Soleil shows
  • A trip to In-N-Out Burger
  • The Rollercoaster rides at Stratosphere
  • Penn and Teller shows
  • Eating at Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace or Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville which is across the street from Caesars
  • Casino Royale is a great place to learn the games with extremely low minimum bids and a relaxed “beginner” atmosphere
  • The Bouchon Bistro is a great French bistro
  • Don’t lose too much money!

I’d also suggest watching the fountain show at the Bellagio and, if you’re into it, shopping at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. And one of my favorite restaurants, Joe's Seafood and Prime Steak also happens to be at Caesars Palace. I could make a meal out of their fabulous side dishes. And the stone crabs are to die for!

But there’s plenty to keep you busy at the conference this year. Once you go through the agenda, you may realize you’ll need to book an extra day if you want to experience Analytics 2012 and Las Vegas.
