Do you enjoy recalling your first SAS encounter almost as much as a first date? If so, you’re not alone. Before picking up the phone to call me, however, consider eavesdropping on some recent SAS users’ conversations—and then share your own story.
Last week, members of our Fans of SAS Books LinkedIn group began disclosing how long they’d been using SAS. You can view some really great admissions from long-term users. (And thanks to SAS author Michael Raithel perhaps see the inspiration for this post). I love these kinds of personal stories. It’s obvious that participants put a lot of thought into sharing their early and often inspiring SAS experiences.
I became curious as to whether our LinkedIn members were just an extraordinary group of users or whether this type of enthusiasm would extend to other social channels. So yesterday I invited followers of SAS Publishing’s Facebook page to also share how long they’d been using SAS. Several seasoned and new users have already confessed to a combined 268 years of experience. In case you’re wondering, eerily enough, our LinkedIn participants have an almost mirror-image combined 286 years of experience.
As both interventions (I mean conversations) continue, we’d also love to hear about your own SAS usage here.

Great comment, Chris! Watch out for Michael, though. He's been running marathons.
Well, I've been using SAS for just over 18 calendar years. But I plan to use SAS Grid Computing to multitask and catch up with Michael's 25 years. I should be there in about 3 months.
Shelly,
Well, unlike my first date, SAS is still with me 25 years after we first met!
Thanks for a fun blog post!
Thanks for always readily sharing your kind wit and expertise!
