SAS Curriculum Pathways Teacher Institute

See 2018 call for applications!

We at SAS Curriculum Pathways are excited to announce our inaugural Summer Teacher Institute! The application is open and ready for your submission.

We always say "in-service teachers are our number-one source for new features and vital to our development process." For these reasons, we are excited to host a cohort of educators this summer at SAS headquarters in Cary, NC. The cohort will work closely with our team for 8 weeks to critically evaluate our current resources, consult on future features, and iterate on their own ideas for the next big edtech resource.

Why should you apply?

There are plenty of reasons to apply; here are our top 5:

  1. To get paid for doing what you love--designing, developing, and evaluating edtech resources!
  2. To collaborate and network with other teaching professionals in the greater Raleigh-Durham area.
  3. To expand your working knowledge of our over 1,500 FREE resources.
  4. To develop or refine your software engineering skills.
  5. To get hands-on experience with the latest edtech gadgets--robots, 3D printers, iBeacons, tablets, and more.

But most of all, to work with great people at a great company.

Hurry! The deadline for applications is April 24th, 2016, at 11:59 pm EST. Start your application here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be in Cary to participate?
Yes. All participants are expected to work on SAS campus in Cary, NC, for the 8-week institute. Participants are welcome to commute, but travel expenses will not be paid by SAS.

What will a day in the life of a Summer Institute participant look like?
We hope no two days will look alike. From resdesigning and updating current resources to consulting on new features and products, participants will be busy putting their classroom experiences and expertise to work with our team.

My school doesn't let out until late June (or starts back early August), can I still participate?
No problem. The institute schedule has a built-in flex week. The institute will run for 9 weeks (June 15 - August 17), but participants are only expected to work 8 of those weeks.

I have a beach week planned, can I still go on vacation?
Of course! The institute schedule has a built-in flex week. The institute will run for 9 weeks (June 15 - August 17), but participants are only expected to work 8 of those weeks.

I submitted my application, now what?
Stay tuned! We expect to have applications reviewed by the middle of May. We will be in touch soon via email.

  1. Hello! I just heard about your summer institute from an administrator at my school. Can you tell me if the institute work hours are Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm for the 8-9 weeks or is the day/week more relaxed? Thanks so much.

      Scott McQuiggan on

Great question. Summer Institute Teachers are eligible to work 35 hour per week. We ask that your hours include 10am-3pm. Most schedules range from 7am-3pm to 10am-6pm work day with an hour for lunch. Summer Institute Teachers will work with management to create a schedule for the summer.

  2. Allison Nowak on

Concerning the one week that teachers have off, do these days have to be consecutive? Can they be spread out? Please clarify.

  3. I am a Teacher Librarian at Wendell Middle School with strong interest in participating in these development focus groups in the future. Unfortunately, my summer commitments have already been filled this year, but please keep me posted for future opportunities.

    Thank you for the information!

  4. Shae L. Smith on

Is the SAS Curriculum Pathways Teachers Instute geared towards upper grades 6th -12th? Also, will there be ceu hours?

    • Scott McQuiggan
      Scott McQuiggan on

Great questions! The Teacher Institute is geared towards K-12, the same as the 1,500+ resources found in Curriculum Pathways. These positions are paid positions. I don't know if we can ethically offer CEUs in addition or not, but we will certainly investigate that and get back to you. Thanks!

  5. Phyllis Anzelon on

I am a teacher assistant that teaches 6 classes a day as a computer lab specialist. Are these positions available for non certified staff as well?

    • Scott McQuiggan
      Scott McQuiggan on

Yes. Educators with experience integrating technology in instruction are encouraged to apply. Let us know if you have any further questions!

  6. Do you have any full time positions available that would be suitable for classroom teachers who are curious about other professions?

  7. I work at a year-round school, but I love the Pathways resources and would relish the opportunity to work to make them even better. Is there anyway to work around it?

    • Scott McQuiggan
      Scott McQuiggan on

      Hi Brooke,

Great question. The Summer Teacher Institute does not accommodate year-round schedules very well. There are other ways the SAS Curriculum Pathways team regularly engages with teachers, such as focus groups for new and updated resources, usability reviews, commenting on resources, professional development (online and in-person), and on social media. While the Summer Institute may not work with your calendar we hope to work with you in one of these other channels!

Let us know if you have any further questions or if there is anything we can do to help your use of SAS Curriculum Pathways.

      Hi Julie,

Great question. These are paid positions, but we are not providing housing accommodations at this time.

Let us know if you have any further questions!

I thank you for this opportunity. I did fill out an application but am worried that the link I provided to the video may not work. You know how technology can be. Is there somewhere else I may be able to send the link (i.e. email, etc.). Please advise.

I am happy to report the link works great. Thanks for checking.

I'm happy it worked. What a load off! Make it a great day and thank you for the timely response.

  9. I think this a great opportunity for educators...especially when you consider how amazing and well-organized the Summer Math Institutes are. I cannot wait to hear final decisions. Do you know how many teachers will be selected for this opportunity?

      Hi Tomika,

We're hoping to have around 5 educators join us for the summer. Let us know if you have any further questions.

  10. Penny McNeill on

Will there be more opportunities? I was just made aware of your summer teacher institute and noticed the deadline was yesterday. I am extremely interested and would want to know if you have not received enough applicants. I would love to speak with someone.
