Community section: Help and be helped

Hi there, I’m Shelley Sessoms. Many of you know me as the editor of the SAS Tech Report. I’m here to help you understand the changes taking place on our customer Web site. The new site will be live on Monday, Oct. 22. Today, I want to tell you about a new section called Community.

The Community section of support.sas.com will be the place to go when you want to find out what other people are doing with SAS. Whether you want to read a newsletter article about a veteran SAS user, discuss the latest feature in ODS via online forums or attend a live event and learn from your colleagues, the Community section has it all.

Within Community, you’ll find information and links to users groups, events, e-newsletters, RSS and blogs, discussion forums and sascommunity.org.

“Having all of this content in one place is terrific for our customers,” says David Baggett, Director of Executive and User Events. “The content discussed at our events is often surfaced in e-newsletters, blogs and discussion forums, so it only makes sense to tie all of these elements together.”

The hope is that you, our customers, will use the Community section as a way to communicate with us and your peers. The SAS Tech Report is a monthly newsletter designed to inform customers about SAS tips and techniques, books, resources, training opportunities and more. There are other e-newsletters specifically published for customers interested in publishing, training and certification.

If you want to get help with a specific problem, or other advice on a certain topic, try going to the Discussion Forums site. There are currently eight forums, so you’re sure to find something of interest to you and your co-workers.

Users Groups and Events is an all-inclusive list of our customer-focused events. You’ll find information on SAS Global Forum, the annual global users conference, as well as a host of regional events held through the US each year. Thousands of SAS users gather each year to share tips, tricks and ideas designed to get the job done better and faster.

If you’re afraid you might miss something on the site, be sure to visit the RSS & Blogs page. There you can subscribe to content from SAS. Whenever a new Note or Sample is posted to the site, you’ll be notified. In addition to this blog, Chris Hemedinger also has a blog that many users find helpful and entertaining. Be sure to check it out.

And last, but not least, is a link to sascommunity.org. sasCommunity.org is an extension of the SAS Global Users Group and has been referred to as the SASopedia. The casual SAS user will find a lot of valuable information just by browsing the site.

When the new site launches on Monday, Oct. 22, check out the Community section. I’m sure you’ll find many helpful links.

Won't you need a password for the new SAS Community page? How will we get that password? I know my RM will give it to me for SAS AML, but will you need a password for Base SAS?

Excellent question. We are not adding additional login or password requirements at this time. Sections of the site that currently require you to login will continue to do so. However, most content on support.sas.com remains freely available for you to use.
