Over at the
DataFlux Community of Experts blog,
Joyce Norris-Montanari asks,
Will the real master data please stand up? She defines master data management as, "... the integration of multiple sources of master data (employee, customer, product, cost centers, etc.) from the entire enterprise," and offers some examples.
Joyce's cohort in blogging at the DataFlux blog,
David Loshin, has contributed a column for the upcoming issue of
sascom on this same topic. In it, he says, "Master data management (MDM) offers a solution for integrating, managing and sharing information through a set of methods and techniques that help organizational teams collaborate to synchronize their data."
The title of the upcoming
sascom article isn't quite as catchy as Joyce's blog post title - but the article does answer some tough questions about MDM: What is it, how is it implemented and why does it matter?
Watch for the second quarter 2007 issue of
sascom to read David's article, or check out this
white paper on the topic now (registration required).
