I'll catch some slack for this - but I have to say it. I'm tired of the word innovate. The jargonization of the word has made it one of the least innovative words in the English language. How do we let this happen? As communicators, we over-use a word to the point where it becomes the opposite of itself. It's
Bizarro World in thesaurus land, Superman!
Innovate is outdated, unique is common, elegant is drab, powerful is ineffective.
Peter Mark Roget is rolling over in his grave. But I digress.
I've actually been meaning, for the past few days, to tell you about
The Innovator's Summit. I just haven't been able to get past the name. So I'm putting it out there, and asking you to move past it with me. We all know conferences are hard things to name. That's why
SUGI is now
SAS Global Forum, and
The Premier Business Leadership Series is - well - a conference with a tagline as a name.
But these are good conferences that deserve your attention despite their names. You don't believe me? Read what last year's attendees had to say about
The Innovator's Summit:
- Don't miss this - it will expand your thinking.
- This conference ... gave me new ways to look at processes at work.
- The caliber of speakers was unbelievable.
- A great way to be challenged with some new thoughts and insights.
- Be ready to take away solid ideas that will fundamentally affect the way you think.
If that doesn't convince you,
check out the list of speakers whose range of specialties include space ships, earthquakes, automobiles and hamburgers. They also know a thing or two about visualization, experimentation, analytics and JMP software.
If you're a SAS customer and unconvinced about the value of a JMP conference, don't overlook the benefits of using JMP as an interface for SAS. More and more SAS users are combining the two products for business visualization and predictive analytics.
Watch the SAS Interface Demo on this page for details.
The Innovator's Summit is September 24-26 in San Francisco.
