Keep the optimism burning. We should do more risks in order to solve this crisis.
If more leaders had the appetite for Geoffrey Moore's prescription, we might become more optimistic. His approach to Innovation is quite disciplined.
Innovation as a dicipline requires leadership and the ability of an organization to stay flexible and nible for change and transition. What do you think are the leadership styles required to ensure innovation?
For example it seems that transitional leadership is one that would be most appropriate to exercise your organizations ability to innovate. The challenge with transitional leadership is that the model of command-and-control does not work. The polar opposite sytle, transactional leadership, is doing more of the same and taking advantage of somthing that's working with clear paths of responsibility and control. Benefits are clarity in responsibity - i.e., keep doing the same thing until there is overwhelming evidence to change. Innovation is critical to success. Most organizations struggle to justify the investment - particularly in a down economy. They think they have neither the time nor the money to take a risk on something that may take considerable time to deliver.
The reality is that everyone has both the time and money to invest - they just don't realize it - they misallocate resources and don't have a clear understanding of what drives current profit/ value.
