During SAS Global Forum 2011 in Las Vegas, a small group of users gathered to organize the first IFSUG (Insurance and Finance SAS Users Group). Today, there are more than 370 enrollees in IFSUG Constant Contact, 60 members in the IFSUG LinkedIn group and 20 followers of @IFSUG on Twitter.

Now that communication and basic organization have been established, the Steering Committee's focus has shifted to finding people to fill key leadership roles and planning our inaugural conference. Here is a list of some of the roles we need to fill:

  1. Steering Committee
  2. Treasurer
  3. Membership Committee
  4. Event and Activity Planning Committee
  5. Communication Committee
  6. Conference Volunteer Committee

If you are interested in being a part of the leadership team for IFSUG, please contact us.

We have also created a very short survey to help start the planning process for our conference and to identify people who would like to help as volunteers at all levels. Please take a moment to fill out the survey.

Tips, Tricks and Connections
Another important objective of IFSUG is providing value-added information that is shared through many channels. A conference is a wonderful way to share knowledge, but conferences are infrequent. Members need to give and receive industry-related tips and share connections throughout the year. In addition to the IFSUG LinkedIn group and Twitter presence, IFSUG has a monthly newsletter. Submit your industry or SAS story, event, or hints and tips to ifsuginfo@gmail.com.

There are many individuals to thank for all of their hard work in planning and organizing IFSUG. Special thanks to the IFSUG Steering Committee and SAS Institute for their persistence in supporting the development of IFSUG.

Rex, thank for sending it in. SAS has a diverse user community, and it is so wonderful to have the opportunity to see this grassroots effort flourish. I'm happy to lend this small level of support.
