SAS Enterprise Guide 4.1: it's not dead yet

5

Are you up to date on your hotfixes for SAS Enterprise Guide 4.1? If you're not certain of the answer, you'll find out next week when you might see this message appear:

This version of SAS Enterprise Guide will expire on December 1st, 2010.

If you've applied any SAS Enterprise Guide 4.1 hotfix since November of 2008 (version number 4.1.0.1009 or later), you will be spared this message and any alarm that it might have caused for you. The hotfixes labeled 41EG09wn and later have innoculated your software and should keep you running until at least December 2015. It's all documented in SAS Note 33359.

The "lifespan" of your SAS Enterprise Guide installation is not controlled by the SETINIT or SID file mechanism that you might know from other SAS products. A few stragglers running SAS Enterprise Guide 2.x learned about this a couple of years ago.

Remember, it's our intent at SAS to keep supporting these applications for as long as you need them. Many customers still have SAS 9.1.3 installations to maintain; these customers need SAS Enterprise Guide 4.1. We even still issue the occasional hotfix for SAS Enterprise Guide 4.1, based on customer needs.

That said, we'd much rather see customers take advantage of the new features within our latest releases!

  1. Hey Chris, we're still running SAS 9.1.3 on the desktops. Are we stuck with EG 4.1 or can we upgrade to 4.3 without upgrading BASE SAS?
