Stu Hunter turns 90

Happy birthday to Stu Hunter, who turned 90 today!

Selected as one of 12 statisticians we are honoring this year in the International Year of Statistics, Stu is "considered by many people to be one of the most important and influential statisticians of the last half century, especially with regard to applying statistics to problems in industry," as our blogger Mark Bailey wrote in March. That same month also marked the inaugural Stu Hunter Research Conference, held this year in Amsterdam.

Dick De Veaux, who will be one of the keynote speakers at Discovery Summit this year, saw Hunter at this weekend's reunions at Princeton University, where Stu is Professor Emeritus. Thanks to Dick (at right) for sharing this photo and to his student Karly Heiner Crotty for taking the pic.

Have any happy memories of Stu Hunter you'd like to share? Or would you like to send your good wishes to Stu? Leave a comment!
