Move "mountains" and build a trusted data foundation with SAS Data Quality

The mission of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is a lofty one: "To conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on earth." SAS is honored to be part of the great work they do, what we call Data for Good – that is, efforts to make the world a better place using software solutions like SAS Data Quality.

SAS Data Quality and other solutions were used to help the WWF reduce marketing costs, improve retention efforts and drive better decisions. Here's a quote from Mac Mirabile, Director of Strategic and Financial Analysis, that better explains it:

"Overall, we’ve found that by communicating with our members individually, understanding the cost structure and making sure we optimize all of our marketing efforts, we can raise the same amount of money for our conservation mission with much less expense."

Start building your trusted data foundation by moving just one small stone

The challenge in building a trusted data foundation is that change doesn't happen over night; it happens one step at a time. As Confucius said: "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” The same goes for building a data-driven business. A data-driven business makes better decisions by putting the right data – trusted data – into the hands of the people who need it, at the time it's needed.

SAS Data Quality helps organizations build a trusted data foundation, one stone at a time. Start with a simple profile of your most used data sources to better understand the data. Work up to a monthly batch process that verifies addresses and enriches the data with geocodes to reduce mailing costs. Then add commonly used and reusable real-time data services that clean up the data as users type it into their sales force automation or CRM applications. Later, adopt a data governance framework that proactively monitors the health of your data, captures your most important data assets in a data glossary, and provides alerts and remediation mechanisms when your data issues go awry.

With SAS Data Quality 2.7.1, you can:

  • Improve performance and handle larger data jobs with an expanded cache memory.
  • Improve trust and security with an updated address verification engine.
  • Speed integration with the latest database versions, including Cloudera, Hortonworks and Teradata. Specifically, Oracle 12c, DB2 11.1 and Microsoft SQL Server 2016 have been validated.
  • Get a better view of your data with the bundled SAS Visual Analytics and Reporting (VAAR) 7.4 engine.

SAS Data Quality also picks up all the data governance goodness from our most recent release of SAS Data Governance. Those include REST API's, point-in-time snapshots and better lineage visualization. Read more about these updates here.
