Gary,
Saint Augustine said that asking yourself the question of your own legacy --- What do I wish to be remembered for? --- is the beginning of adulthood. I interpret that to mean that what you do in the second half of our life, e.g., after SAS, is when your legacy will be determined. No question you've added far more benefit to companies, industries and management practices than most consultants, authors and speakers. But if Saint Augustine is correct, your greatest legacy is yet to come. I for one look forward to learning what it is. Tom,
Thanks for the compliments and your profound question about my future. I have some ideas about what I will do when the day comes that I retire from SAS. My belief is "the day you stop working is the day you start dying." I know in my career after SAS I will somehow continue being an advocate of helping organizations to improve their performance and themselves ... to be both smarter (decision-making) and healthy (employee growth and morale). Gary
Your post is right on the money. I have also written a respose and added my own comment on my own post at www.performancecontroller.com entitled "My Plan to Live to 100" best regards Gordon Wood |
