Great post!
Dan has provided a good comparison between old and modern practice of performance management. For any business, achieving the target is the ultimate goal. And for doing so, the work environment should be encouraging and object oriented. Yet both Dan Woods and Gary are speaking to the choir and not the people whom really need this system to manage the business. Like the founder of TQM the US businesses will eventually figure out that performance management is used for the total firm versus trying to ink out a bit more financial profit from their required SEC reports and downplay that same financial profit for their IRS reports.
