There's a lot of anxiety about the economy and how government at the central, province/state, and local levels is performing services to citizens.
When I ponder the
U.S. economic stimulus plan being debated today in D.C. as well as issues with operating budgets like the
State of California's $42 billion deficit, I often wonder how technology is enabling (or not) these government stewards of our funds, our safety and our future.
We have so many challenges accessing, understanding, analyzing and acting on information in the private sector - how is government on all levels and across all geographies doing?
Here's where I take heart - I am looking for positive news today. Just needed a bit of it in my backpocket and I found it!
And wouldn't you know it - this story starts with DATA and comes right from the heart of California. Let's take a quick trip to L.A. County!
So what's the scoop?
Well, LA County has approximately 65,000 indigent adults receiving social and human services from multiple agencies. These services are supported through the county’s General Relief program,
without state or federal support. The cost of services and participant engagement remained largely unknown because participants receive services from multiple county departments.
Doesn't this type of scenario sound familiar? To connect the dots and make more evidence-based decisions on how to manage the program, L.A. County created the Adult Linkages Project.
Learn more about how L.A. put data and analytics in action by
reading the data integration product review at Information Management. This project is expected to save LA County between $5.4 million and $10.3 million in cost offsets by 2012!
Do you have any awesome stories like this one? Please share! I am going to keep surfacing these from time to time in the blog cause I need to hear positive news.
